Thomasina Bateman, an antiquarian has been writing a book on the history of barrows in England. It’s going to record the treasures she uncovers inside. A mysterious letter invites her to the small village of Bewlay located in the remote countryside she travels by train along with her friend for a few days behind.
When she arrives, however, the mysterious man who was supposed to summon her cannot be seen. Her assistant never arrives. The stubborn landowner denies acces to his barrow. Locals fear this woman that travels by herself. wears trousers.
